It’s always a fun gig when clients trust us with the creative freedom to really run wild with a concept. The brief was incredibly loose… The Koori Way got in touch wanting us to create an interactive video experience to discourage indigenous youths from smoking and vaping. The rest was left up to us.
Our initial concern was that if handled incorrectly, an anti-smoking video had the potential to come across as preachy and boring. If viewers mentally switched off while watching, the messaging would go largely unheard. So we wanted to make sure our take would be as fun and entertaining as possible to keep viewers fully engaged. We thought this was particularly important as the audience would be quite young.
We leveraged the popularity of the ‘Multiverse’, alternate versions of reality which are trending in recent movies and television series. We used visual effects to create multiple variations of our character Sheeneeya who would travel from different universes through portals and have conversations with herself. Interactive Video was incorporated to allow the user to select these characters and progress the storylines as they saw fit. Educational information was sprinkled throughout the experience, hidden throughout moments of absurd humour.
Here’s a little behind the scenes peek at how we put the experience together…
